Hospital Bill vs. Physician Bill

Patients should expect to receive TWO (2) bills from their Emergency Department visit: One from Sutter Health (the hospital bill) and one from Berkeley Emergency Medical Group (the physician bill).

The Billing Process

Berkeley Emergency Medical Group (BEMG) bills for professional services rendered during emergency department visits at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center.

When complete and accurate insurance information is provided, insurance will be billed charges for professional services.

Our billing company, Brault, manages our billing operations for professional services provided by our physicians.

An itemized statement of charges for professional service will be sent to the guarantor usually within 2 weeks.

Want to pay your physician bill online?

Your physician bill can also be paid online by going to Brault’s billing portal. Click on the option on the top left to “Make a One Time Payment.”

Updating Your Insurance Information

If you were not able to provide complete and accurate information about your insurance coverage, policy number, etc. during your emergency department visit, please obtain this information and provide it to Brault as soon as possible by calling (844) 301-0407.
